“ if you want the ultimate fresh off the grill skewers you should come here! Their food is always fresh, hot and flavorful. The restaurant is spacious and feels homey. Some of my favorites here are fish tofu, pork belly, sausage, beef, cold noodle dish and dumplings. Their soup with cabbage and tofu is quite delicious too. Come check it out (: ”
“ i liked it so you should too! jk, no pressure. i mostly order take-outs, but yes obviously dine in is the best for skewers which i have, so my review applies to both. the place isn't big but the taste is, so be ready to bring your starved stomach to the table and fill it up with great tasties. one of my odd favorite is their skewered buns and for those who love spicy ask them to add extra spice do be prepare to drink lots of water/beer to wash down all the flavors avoid waking up the next morning without a voice lol this place has been opened for some time now and there's a reason that they are still in business while many others had fallen, so yes despite they may not be the #1 skewers place in LA, i certainly recommend No.1 Charcoal BBQ to friends and family without hesitation :-) ”
“ My new favorite place! Be aware before ordering skewers, they give a lot. Two of us ordered a lot thinking it'd be like yakitori & will be one skewer, but most of them came 2-4 skewers. We were full even before halfway through & we thought they took double orders & the bill will be a lot. When the bill came, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was less than half that I expected & certainly we got the bang for our buck. Everything was crazy flavorful. Food came super quick & before we could finish a skewer, another one set came out. Chicken gristle (soft bone) is my all time favorite. Nothing can beat the crunch & flavor. Loved it! Lamb kidney was a pleasant surprise. The spicy mix dip was the best I ever had. I'm in love with this place ”
“ Absolutely friggen boss. Delicious. It's open late and sooooo good. I love the tofu fish and the mushrooms and my wife loves the lamb dumplings. The scallops are brilliant. So tasty. ”
“ This place open till 2.30am on weekends, 1.30am on weekdays. Really! Good to come by with some beers and eat into the wee hours. The flavors are excellent and they have a huge variety of skewers and Northern Chinese dishes. Most of them are inclined to be spicy but this place tend to use less cumin and more chillies. We only merely ordered 23 dishes which may seemed almost exuberant. We did spent 2.5 hours waiting patiently as they take time to cook and we use the time for social bonding with the aid of a few bottles of aqua vitae. Only dishes I did not care for were the chicken claws and crayfish. Both were hard to eat or not much to eat but the flavors were good. Overall the best Chinese charcoal BBQ in the sgv. The meats are perfectly cooked and not charred like in a lot of other BBQ joints. ”
“ I alway passed by this place but never went in. My friends were craving for skewers so this was the only place open in a 5 mile radius on New Year day. We order several items like the lamb, beef, beef tongue, gizzard, sausage and chicken gristle. The price range from $3.99- $5.99 and the squid was $12.99. The portion is on the smaller side but you get several skewers per order. It's kind pricey here but the quality and taste are worth it. My favorite were the squid, sausage and beef. The squid was cooked perfectly and seasoned well! The beef and sausage was seasoned with cumin and cayenne which tasted pretty well together. My least favorite was the chicken gristle. It was chewy and crunchy. The crunchy part was from the cartilage. I never been a fan of eating cartilage so it's no wonder I didn't like it. I also tried their 3 ingredients dumplings and the Dan Dan noodles (sesame noodles). I actually was impressed how good it was! Since it would cost you a significant amount of money to get full on skewers, try the dumplings and Dan Dan noodles to fill you up. The sunflower seed is quiet tasty and sweet. I don't know what they did to it but the flavor got inside too! The flavor is not just on the outside. You won't be able to eat just 1! ”
“ We always have a good time in the old store on Garfield, just socked it closed suddenly... Now it re-opened on Chandler and everything is keeping its standard. The new store is a lot larger, with 2 party rooms. We have a birthday party of 20 people and of course we are taking one of the party rooms. It fitted 20 all of us with no problem. The owner let us go early and decorate the room a little bit. The food is still flawless: Chicken knees: always my favorite, I can easily chow down half dozen of it; none of the competitors can even come close to the taste Lamb skewer: very fresh meat, cooked to perfect Steaks: very juicy and tender We also got green pepper, mushroom, chicken wings, dumplings, pork belly, sausages, pork intestine... everything is good. The service is excellent, they did everything to make sure our birthday party go well, continuously checking our needs and response quick. ”
